Subscription Series


In its 129th season, the Czech Philharmonic presents subscription cycles A, B, C and four special concerts. Chief Conductor Semyon Bychkov will share the baton with Principal Guest Conductor Jakub Hrůša. Sir Simon Rattle accepted the title of Principal Guest Conductor Rafael Kubelík Chair. Nathalie Stutzmann and Alan Gilbert will make their debut with the orchestra. Pianist Daniil Trifonov will take on the role of Artist-in-Residence.

Series A features mainly 20th century music balanced by three world premieres and Mozart’s concerto. Semyon Bychkov, Jakub Hrůša, Alain Altinoglu and Keith Lockhart will be the conductors performing together with violinists Karen Gomyo, Jiří Vodička, and Josef Špaček, pianists Víkingur Ólafsson and Marc-André Hamelinand organist Thierry Escaich.

Besides major works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonín Dvořák, Gustav Mahler and Leoš Janáček, you can look forward to new pieces by James MacMillan, Martin Smolka and Aaron Copland. Chief Conductor Semyon Bychkov, Tomáš Netopil, Manfred Honeck and Michael Tilson Thomas conduct the programmes.

Subscription series C in the 126th season offers four concerts featuring works by Mahler, Suk, Brahms, Kabeláč, and other brilliant composers. Chief Conductor Semyon Bychkov conducts two programmes and Jakub Hrůša will spend one evening with us and conducting star Franz Welser-Möst will take the baton in the concluding programme.

The special concerts tradition includes two season opening concerts, New Year’s concert and the closing Open Air Concert. A new tradition of the Velvet Revolution Concert, launched last year, also continues. A new special Spring concert in April presents Jiří Vodička and Petr Altrichter.

Popular Advent concerts take place in the Suk Hall of the Rudolfinum on all four Advent Sundays at 3 p.m. You can look forward to exciting programmes prepared by chamber ensembles of the Czech Philharmonic musicians and their guests. We also invite you to enjoy a pre-concert cup of coffee in Café Rudolfinum.

The 2021/2022 season offers a record number of morning public dress rehearsals. The rehearsals are in the hands of the conductor who can make pauses and repeat some sections of the music. Please respect his right to do so. There is a special presale schedule for tickets to public dress rehearsals.
