Subscription Series


IIn its 129th season, the Czech Philharmonic presents subscription cycles A, B, C and four special concerts. Chief Conductor Semyon Bychkov shares the stage with Principal Guest Conductor Jakub Hrůša and recently appointed Principal Guest Conductor Rafael Kubelík Chair Sir Simon Rattle. Conductors Nathalie Stutzmann and Alan Gilbert will make their debuts with the orchestra, and pianist Daniil Trifonov appears as Artist-in-Residence.

The programming for Series A covers a broad range of music history, from works by Bach to Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Debussy and Mahler. The music of Kurt Weill will also feature as well as two world premieres. In addition to appearances by Chief Conductor Semyon Bychkov, Simon Rattle and Tomáš Netopil, amongst others, two international artists make their Czech Philharmonic debuts.

Over six concerts, the Czech Philharmonic focus on music from the 19th century – that of Brahms, Dvořák, Schumann and Berlioz – with some pieces from overlapping epochs both previous and subsequent including those by Nielsen, Janáček, Shostakovich, Suk and Ravel. With this season’s performances of Epilogue, Jakub Hrůša and the Czech Philharmonic complete their Suk cycle. Another highlight will be Simon Rattle’s interpretation of Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass.

This season’s Series C could be called the “Vocal” Series instead as three of the four programmes prominently feature music written for the voice or voices. These include arias from the Classical period performed by Magdalena Kožená, Honegger’s magnificent Joan of Arc oratorio and Vladimír Sommer’s Vocal Symphony.

Launching the Czech Philharmonic’s new season opening concerts for the second time with Chief Conductor Semyon Bychkov is the phenomenal Daniil Trifonov, this time returning as Artist-in-Residence. Audiences can also look forward Petr Popelka making his Czech Philharmonic debut in the annual Velvet Revolution Concerts as well as four performances on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day led by Tomáš Netopil.

During the Czech Philharmonic’s 129th season, four regular morning dress rehearsals and one special one on New Year’s Eve will be open to the public. The dress rehearsal on 31 December 2024 will be followed by an afternoon concert and two concerts on New Year’s Day. Due to the season, the price will differ to the regular morning dress rehearsals.
