Marek Novák

After leaving the Music School in Chrudim (East Bohemia), he studied cello in nearby Pardubice with Jaroslav Krečmer in 1993–1997. He graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in Miroslav Petráš’ class in 2004. He has attended masterclass courses in Semmering (Austria) with Professor Tobias Kühne and in Prague with Mstislav Rostropovich.

When studying at the conservatory, he won the 1^st prize at the Czech Conservatories Competition in Teplice. He participated at the Prague Spring International Competition and the Bohuslav Martinů Competition. In 2001, he won the special prize for performing Beethoven’s composition at the Ludwig van Beethoven International Competition.

As a soloist, he has performed with the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice, the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra, at the Prague Spring festival (together with the Band of the Castle Guards and the Police of the Czech Republic) and has collaborated with the Talich Chamber Orchestra. In 2002, he joined the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 2003–2005 he was the principal cellist of the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice. He plays in various chamber ensembles and teaches at music schools.
