Concerts in the "Steps" series are journeys of discovery. We often try to get into composers' heads to see how they were thinking when writing music and where the important crossroads are that were decisive for how the work turned out. Above all, we discover the music itself and our relationship with it: what speaks to us and why we like it.

Each year from January until June, about 60 young people meet at the Rudolfinum to create a beautiful joint concert under the guidance of players from the Czech Philharmonic (and with support from their teachers). This time, the project participants are from the regions of Hradec Králové, Moravian Silesia, Pilsen, Zlín, and Prague. The charismatic conductor Petr Altrichter will lead the concluding concert.

At this programme for the general public, Jana Boušková reveals the secrets of undoubtedly the most elegant orchestral instrument. You will see and hear music being played, including arrangements for two harps.

Our host will be the Czech Philharmonic double bass section leader Adam Honzírek. We'll hear about what this big instrument can do and what makes it challenging, and also about its place in the symphony orchestra. To do this, we'll take a musical journey from the classics to jazz and on to modern experiments.
