For a third season, the Czech Philharmonic is supplementing its programmes for children and youth with musical workshops for the elderly. There is room for everyone interested, regardless of ability or musical experience. The main things are the joy of new social contacts, the experience of listening to music, and finding connections between rhythm, tempo, movement, instrumental colours, and the silence between the notes.
Since the beginning of human civilisation, music has been a world that brings together ceremonies and dancing, invocations and listening. With music, we can be alone in our own room or at a gathering of 100,000 people. Music is with us from the cradle to the grave. We think of music as grand symphonies and simple children's songs, and we find in it the triumphs and defeats of professional artists and in the joy of playing by amateur ensembles that are not excessively result-oriented.
These four workshops on various topics are conceived with an emphasis on shared joy and creativity, and they are primarily intended for participants over age 60, but they can also serve as inspiration for caregivers, volunteers, and social workers.
