Subscription Series A

New World, Liturgique, Leningrad, Mahler’s Third. These words are not magic spells, but they conjure up four major symphonies of the worldwide repertoire that will be heard one after the other in this subscription series. There will also be a concert performance of Janáček’s opera The Cunning Little Vixen.

Series A is one of the two main subscription series with six concerts, and chief conductor Semyon Bychkov will appear at three of them. Two titles will be added by principal guest conductor Jakub Hrůša, and another conducting star - Giovanni Antonini will once again invite the Czech Youth Philharmonic. Jakub Hrůša is preparing an evening of Mahler songs followed by Honegger’s Symphonie Liturgique and Leoš Janáček’s opera The Cunning Little Vixen, which was cancelled during the pandemic. At each of his subscription concerts Semyon Bychkov will lead a work by a key composer in his repertoire: Antonín Dvořák, Gustav Mahler, and Dmitri Shostakovich. We will hear the season’s artist-in-residence pianist András Schiff, the violinist Josef Špaček, and several singers including the baritone Christian Gerhaher.
