The Czech Philharmonic and its Chief Conductor and Music Director Semyon Bychkov announce an audition for the position of 2nd Associate Principal Double Bass. The position is offered on a full-time basis starting on 1 August 2025.
Conditions: German bow, Solo tuning
After joining: obligation to play the five-string double bass
Application deadline: 20 January 2025

1st Round (anonymous, with piano):
1. J. K. Vaňhal: Concerto in D major (1st and 2nd movement without cadenza)
(version in E major will not be accepted)
2. Orchestral parts (selected excerpts):
- A. Dvořák: Symphony No. 8 in G major
- B. Smetana: Vyšehrad, Blaník
- L. van Beethoven: Symphony No. 5. (Scherzo)
- W. A. Mozart: Symphony No. 40 in G minor
2nd Round (non-anonymous, with piano):
1. S. Koussevitzky: Concerto F sharp minor (1st and 2nd movement)

- H. Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique

How the audition works
All audition applicants must complete an application form, which includes links to video recordings of the prescribed tracks, by the due date. From the applications received, the selection committee will select applicants with the appropriate level of performance, experience and education and send them an invitation to audition.
